After a massive leap in stardom with his music video for "Evergreen" which has racked up 16m views and that you could discover on Morphosis last year (here), American singer Omar Apolonio Velasco aka Omar Apollo is now back with a new track entitled "Ice sippin". Bare and purgative, he wears his heart on his sleeve on a single that might be his most naked yet. Tending to his own fractured heart as he pleads for another's return home, he is forced to confront the truth that he may be the reason why they've fled. It's hard to pick yourself back up when you're slipping on ice, mirroring the deepening tunnel of growing heartbreak. Dealing with both heartbreak and rejection, this lead single from his forthcoming EP "Live for me" -set for release on October 6- is a poignant ballad inspired by him coming out to his family. "This song is a reflection and reaction of all the emotions I had to face before and after I decided to leave the icy streets of Indiana", he stated. The promo video was beautifully directed by Jason Sondock & Simon Davis of NYC-based duo Rubberband once again. The artist is also currently starring in the FW23 men's campaign for Spanish fashion house Loewe styled by Benjamin Bruno and shot by David Sims.
"Happiness is to be found when in pursuit of it, in the soothed expectation, on the way, not only upon the arrival. Accepting detours, just going the way, which is anyhow not this obvious to anyone".
Thomas Bettinelli

Omar Apollo - "Evergreen"
Perhaps you discovered him some years ago on Morphosis. Hailing from Hobart, Indiana, Mexican-American singer-songwriter Omar Apolonio Velasco aka Omar Apollo started his career by creating and uploading his songs to SoundCloud. In 2017, using $30 borrowed from a friend, he released his song "Ugotme" on Spotify, where it was soon playlisted on the platform's Fresh Finds and racked up 20,000 streams in a day. A year later, the song would cross more than 15 million streams. He has released one studio album, two extended plays, and one mixtape so far. His music has primarily been described as RnB, alternative RnB, and pop music, with elements of soul, funk, hip-hop, latin music, trap, reggaeton, and bedroom pop. As unique as his sound is, he has garnered as much attention for his lyrics -themes of romantic yearning and self-improvement swirled up with expressions of cultural heritage and identity. After "Invincible", "Tamagotchi" and "Pretty boy" earlier this year (here), dude is now back with a new track entitled "Evergreen (you didn't deserve me at all)" -the eighth single off his début album "Ivory". It is speculated that the song talks about the singer's relationship with Frank Ocean. It catapulted him onto the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, through what every artist hopes for in 2022 : a viral TikTok moment. An influx of users began posting compilations of a hardship soon after -be it depression, body image issues or heartbreak- followed by their post-struggle glow up, to the track's climactic bridge. Proof that the 25-year-old's vulnerability paid off, showing that the longtime alt artist with a cult following is fully equipped for a mainstream breakthrough. The promo video was directed by Rubberband's Jason Sondock & Simon Davis.
